Two main reasons why we excavate for the foundation of a house. (1) We need to protect the foundation from the forces of freezing and thawing being the major one and (2) Runoff water and protection from pests and others.

To prevent the foundation from lifting we dig a hole deep enough so that the bottom of the footing is below the depth of the frost line. The soil under this footing should be undisturbed soil or rock containing no top soil, organic or vegetable matter.

"Footers" - Usually footers are 6" thick and 16" wide running continuously around the perimeter of the building.

Foundation excavating of both basements and crawl spaces, are one of the many services available. We also offer forming and pouring of the footings, perimeter tiling of the interior and exterior with sump crock, gravel in the basement and crawl space and block or poured walls.
